Research agents
Research agents search sources, condense information and write reports – from market research to scientific literature reviews.
Research agents break a question down into sub-questions, search the web, databases or documents, assess what they find and combine it into a report. Many tools in this category are discussed under the term “deep research”.
Quality depends heavily on the accessible sources and on how results are checked. A research agent provides a basis for decisions, not the decision itself.
Role in an AI-first business model
In go-to-market work, research agents prepare knowledge about markets, competitors and customers – for example as a briefing before a conversation or as a basis for prioritising target accounts.
This only becomes effective once it is clear which sources are permitted, how results are checked and who acts on them. Research without a connection to a process remains activity without results.
What to look for when choosing
- Source references for every statement
- Control over which sources may be used
- Handling of contradictory or outdated information
- A connection to the process in which the result is used

GPT Researcher
An autonomous agent for in-depth online research across a wide range of tasks. It is useful for gathering information from the web and presenting it in a structured way.
BlockAGI
An agent for iterative, domain-specific research. It summarises its findings in detailed narrative reports.
data-to-paper
An AI-driven research framework that goes from raw data to a scientific paper. Its focus is on results that humans can verify.
AI Scientist
A research project by Sakana AI towards fully automated, open-ended scientific work. It explores how AI agents can carry out the research process on their own.
Storm
An LLM-powered knowledge curation system that researches a topic. It then writes a full-length report with citations.
OpenLens AI
An autonomous research agent for health informatics. It is designed to carry out research tasks in this field on its own.
DeepAnalyze
An agentic LLM for autonomous data science. It handles specific data tasks as well as data-oriented deep research and produces analyst-grade research reports.
AIDE
A machine learning engineering agent that uses tree search to design experiments, generate code and evaluate results against any chosen metric. It is useful for automating ML experimentation.
Cynative
An agent for in-depth cybersecurity research across your cloud, code and runtime. It operates read-only and in a sandbox.
Kapso
Long-running agents that optimise AI and data systems. They are meant to learn from every task they perform and improve their work over time.
Jev Social
An open-source social media research agent for Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn that uses bounded, read-only operations. A local CLI collects evidence in the browser, and the app delivers posts, media and a cited report.
Research Toolkit
A collection of research methods, workflow tools and independent review for AI agents. It supports agents in producing reports that are backed by sources.
Station
An open-source research environment where AI agents run experiments and collaborate. Together they build up a shared body of scientific literature.
From tool to outcome
In AI-first coaching you clarify which outcomes AI agents should be accountable for in your go-to-market and within which framework. REVAGO then designs, builds and runs your system. You pay for results – not for activity.
